The quality of the mat itself matters more than most first-time buyers expect. Spike density is the most important variable, with higher-density mats, those with more points per square inch, distributing pressure more evenly and producing a more comfortable experience, particularly for beginners, while lower-density mats concentrate the pressure in fewer points and tend to be more intense.
