Before the Chanel Haute Couture Fall Winter 2026 show even takes place, the house has already set the tone for what is coming. The show, announced on Chanel’s official Instagram with the date July 7th at 2PM Paris time, arrives with a campaign and an invitation that together tell a complete story before a single look has been revealed. Matthieu Blazy has now established a clear pattern across his collections at Chanel, each one announcing itself through a specific visual and conceptual language before the runway, and this edition is no exception. If the Spring Summer 2026 couture show arrived wrapped in the imagery of Disney woodland creatures and Cinderella’s atelier, the Fall Winter 2026 edition reaches for a different fairytale and finds one that feels just as precise in its logic.
The teaser campaign posted on Chanel’s Instagram is a short animated film built around a single image that does a great deal of work. A cartoon girl in a white t-shirt and blue trousers climbs an enormous beanstalk that rises above the Paris skyline, the Eiffel Tower visible in the background, and the beanstalk itself is shaped in the double C of the Chanel logo, the house’s most recognizable symbol transformed into the magical vine of Jack and the Beanstalk. Inside the Rue Cambon atelier, giant illustrated flowers bloom as vines creep across the room, the ordinary space of the house overtaken by something that has grown beyond what anyone expected. The animated girl navigating the logo-beanstalk is a small figure climbing toward something very large, which is as clean and as direct a metaphor for what haute couture asks of everyone involved in making it as Blazy has yet produced in his campaign work for the house. The reference to Jack and the Beanstalk carries its own logic too. It is a story about climbing toward the extraordinary by following something that grew from almost nothing, about the gap between the ordinary world at the bottom and whatever exists at the top, and about the particular kind of courage required to keep climbing when you cannot yet see what is waiting.

The invitation that accompanied the show announcement is the object that has circulated most widely online in the days since and that has generated the strongest response. It is a small silver book locket on a chain, openable, its cover engraved with the words Once upon a time in a cursive script alongside the Chanel double C logo, delivered in a black velvet pouch tied with a black ribbon bow. It is an invitation as a piece of jewellery and a fairytale opener simultaneously, the kind of object that communicates the register of what is coming before anyone reads a word of show notes or sees a single image from the collection. Once upon a time is not just a narrative convention. In the context of Chanel and Matthieu Blazy’s ongoing dialogue with the house’s own history, it is a statement about how he understands couture itself, as a form of storytelling that begins long before the clothes appear and that continues long after the show ends.

What Blazy is building across his Chanel campaigns is a consistent and coherent creative language that operates in the space between the fashion industry’s usual promotional mechanics and something closer to genuine artistic communication. The Spring Summer 2026 teaser used animation to say something true about the petites mains and the enchantment of couture craft. The Métiers d’Art New York teaser used Michel Gondry and a romantic comedy sensibility to say something about the relationship between the house and the city. This one uses a fairytale that everybody knows and finds inside it an image specific enough to carry the weight of the show it is introducing. The animated girl, the logo beanstalk, the Paris skyline, the blooming atelier, and a silver book that opens with once upon a time: together they describe a show that has not yet happened and make you want to be there when it does. The show will be revealed on July 7th at 2PM Paris time.
